HISTORY OF THE CONGRESS
In 1996, the next Turkish National Congress of Gastroenterologists took place in Antalya. At meetings held with a group of prominent Turkic and Turkic-speaking scientists invited to the Congress, an agreement was reached to create the Eurasian Gastroenterological Association and locate its main association in the city of Ankara.
The First International Eurasian Congress of the Eurasian Gastroenterological Association was held in 1997 in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The first Congress, held with the support of the government of Azerbaijan, was attended by 35 foreigners from 5 countries, as well as about 500 Azerbaijani scientists and doctors.

Azerbaijani surgeons and gastroenterologists have been active members of the Eurasian Gastroenterological Association since the first day of its creation and take an active part in all events of the Association.
An outstanding representative of Azerbaijani medical science, a world-class scientist, academician Boyukkishi Agayev played an irreplaceable role in the creation of the Eurasian Gastroenterological Association. Under his chairmanship, the International Eurasian Congress of Surgery and Gastroenterology was held 7 times in Azerbaijan.
At the XIX International Eurasian Congress of Surgery and Gastroenterology, held in Rome in November 2023, the Presidium unanimously decided to hold the next Congress in April 2024 in the capital of Azerbaijan.
So, more than 100 healthcare representatives, scientists and specialists from 23 countries have submitted applications to the Organizing Committee to participate in the XX International Eurasian Congress of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists and the XX International Congress of Hepatogastroenterologists.
Important results of the conducted scientific research will be published in the collection of the congress in the form of abstracts. Lectures, reports and speeches will be presented to a wide international audience through simultaneous translation into Azerbaijani, Turkish and English.
The organizing committee is confident that during the days of the congress, a large audience of local doctors will share their experience, knowledge and skills with famous scientists representing the continents of North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, and will contribute to further success in the development of healthcare in Azerbaijan.
